Who’s that girl… it’s Quirk Girl?
Zooey Deschanel and Max Greenfield are bringing a New Girl parody to The Simpsons — and Entertainment Weekly can exclusively debut a preview clip of their appearance in the animated sitcom’s season 36 finale.
In the clip, Lisa Simpson (Yeardley Smith) watches an episode of Quirk Girl on her tablet, declaring, “Right now my friends and I are binging this show from the golden age of television: 2013.” (New Girl aired from 2011 to 2018, for the record.)
In a clip-within-a-clip, Deschanel’s character arrives at her apartment, where she sees a new puppy cradled in the arms of Schultz (voiced by Greenfield in a thinly veiled spoof of his New Girl character, Schmidt).
“Aw, Schultz, you got a dog? Cuuute!” Deschanel’s character says.
Schmidt — er, Schultz — replies, “I just borrowed him to meet ladies.”
The dog then bites him on the hand, prompting him to exclaim, “Ow, my finger-quote fingers! I am in ‘terrible pain!'” (He struggles to mime air quotes while shouting those last two words, of course.)
Schultz bolts out of the room, and Deschanel’s character whips a ukulele out of thin air.
“Sometimes a horndog gets bit by a real dog, lalalalala!” she sings in a style uncannily reminiscent of the actress’ multitude of twee musical performances.
The clip then brings Lisa back into frame, giggling. “She made it okay for cute girls to be pretty!” she says.

The Simpsons‘ season 36 finale is titled “Estranger Things,” and will highlight the importance of TV in the bond between Bart and Lisa. The episode’s official description reads, “When Bart & Lisa stop watching Itchy & Scratchy together, Marge fears that they’ll start to drift apart… but she has no idea how bad things are about to get!”

The episode will also mark the first appearance of Kelly Macleod as Milhouse Van Houten; the actress is permanently taking over voicing duties for the blue-haired nerd following the retirement of original performer Pamela Hayden.
Deschanel previously appeared on a season 19 ep of The Simpsons as Mary Spuckler, one of Cletus’ numerous daughters. She reprised the role in two more episodes in season 24.
The Simpsons season finale airs Sunday, May 18, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Fox. Watch the exclusive clip above.
