Brian Austin Green doesn’t regret calling his relationship with ex Vanessa Marcil “toxic.”
“No, because everything that’s come recently has genuinely been for the purpose of speaking about a relationship,” the Beverly Hills, 90210 actor told PEOPLE on Friday. “It’s not pointing fingers, placing blame on anyone. If she takes things that way, then there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s pretty obvious just in listening to the things that I say and what it is we do on our show, that’s not our intention.”

The show he was referring to is Oldish, the podcast he cohosts with fiancée Sharna Burgess and Randy Spelling, where he recently said that his relationship with Marcil, whom he dated from the late ’90s to 2003, “felt like Vietnam to me.” He said that Megan Fox, whom he coupled up with next, “was a breath of fresh air.”
He said that because his mother had smothered him, he sought the opposite.
“If I’m looking for a woman, I want the complete opposite of that. I had some major missteps because of that,” Green added. “I mean, the relationship that I had with Vanessa was very toxic in that way. Like, it wasn’t a loving, caring relationship.”
The 90210 costars welcomed a son, Kassius, in 2002, before going their separate ways the following year.

Green’s words come after Marcil, in response, shared and then deleted a photo of an alleged text exchange between the coparents, PEOPLE noted. In them, he appeared to ask where a photo was taken, and Marcil answered that it was his graduation. “You did a really great job,” Green supposedly answered. “He’s an amazing person.”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to a rep for Marcil for comment.
Since dating Marcil, Green romanced and married Fox, with whom he shares three sons — Noah, Bodhi, and Journey — but they split for good in 2020. He and Burgess have been together since late 2020, and they share one son.
