Watch the ‘SNL’ season 50 blooper reel, featuring the best cast breaks

Saturday Night Live is pulling back the curtain on season 50’s biggest mistakes.

The comedy show uploaded a three-minute video highlighting previously unseen bloopers, cast breaks from both rehearsals and live episodes, and mistakes from live episodes on Wednesday. The reel includes footage of hosts like John Mulaney, Charli XCX, Shane Gillis, Nate Bargatze, and Paul Mescal, as well as several moments with cast members Sarah Sherman, Ego Nwodim, Bowen Yang, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner, and James Austin Johnson.

The reel begins with Nwodim’s disastrous call-and-response “Weekend Update” snafu, wherein she asked the audience, “These men ain’t what?” and the audience responded, “S—!”, prompting the broadcasters to cut the audio to avoid an FCC violation.

The video also shows Sherman cracking up while attempting to kiss an astronaut puppet from the “Beppo” pre-recorded segment from Mulaney’s episode. In another outtake from a pre-recorded segment, “CouplaBeers,” Gillis’ character accuses Marcello Hernandez’s character of farting in the “green room” (the joke didn’t make it into the final sketch, but it’s safe to assume he was meant to say “break room,” as the scene is set in an office and not a performing arts venue). Gillis then fails to pull down Hernandez’s pants, prompting Sherman, Hernandez, and himself to burst into laughter.

In outtakes from a video promoting Mulaney’s episode, the Everybody’s Live star cracks up multiple times at Johnson’s Bob Dylan impression. Johnson shared the clip on X, noting that filming the segment was his “number one season 50 highlight” as a longtime Dylan fan.

“There’s probably a 20 minute cut of this that would be a grueling exercise in patience to enjoy, so an ideal Bob fan experience,” Johnson wrote. “Three SNL writer Bob fans ([Mulaney], Mike DiCenzo and myself) giggling on the floor for hours, constantly assuring the  director Tim Wilkime and producer Grace Shaker this was worth the time and expense.”

Later, Gardner and Nwodim can both be seen messing up as they shoot the pre-recorded “Mascara Commercial” segment from Lady Gaga’s episode. Both actresses are covered in smeared mascara as they struggle to contain their laughter and say their lines.

Yang also has a number of gaffes in the blooper reel. He refers to Andy Samberg as “Slamblerg,” fails to successfully pronounce “Miss V.P.” in a TikTok parody where he sings in front of Maya Rudolph’s Kamala Harris, and knocks down a microphone in a live sketch while wearing a blond wig. He also breaks in multiple live sketches after stabbing Ashley Padilla in the leg and after Gardner stuffs her face with food in a sketch with Bargatze.

Later, Charli XCX laughs as she calls Please Don’t Destroy’s Ben Marshall a “dead-eyed ginger.” Marshall and fellow PDD member John Higgins also struggle to keep it together as the group’s third member, Martin Herlihy, enthusiastically screams, “Boom!”

The video ends with Sherman and Devon Walker being blasted with fake blood while shooting “Pip.” Off-screen, a crew member yells “Happy birthday, Sarah,” as the two comedians laugh.
