Bryan Cranston praises his daughter’s performance on ‘The Pitt’

From Breaking Bad to breaking dad!

During a recent red carpet interview, Bryan Cranston was asked about his daughter, Taylor Dearden, and her breakthrough performance as Dr. Melissa “Mel” King on the hit medical drama The Pitt — and it’s fair to say he’s one proud papa.

“There is nothing that’s more gratifying than when your kid receives praise. Nothing,” Cranston told the Associated Press. “No one can say anything to me that’s better than that.”

He added, “Her mom and I are just over the moon with her work on it,” referring to his wife, fellow actor Robin Dearden, to whom he’s been married since 1989.

“She’s a very hard-working person. She grew up in it, so it’s in her bones,” Cranston gushed about his daughter, 32. “She’s in it for the right reasons and she loves it.”

Given that, Cranston — whose legendary career includes winning six Emmys, two Golden Globes, and two Tonys, as well as earning nominations for an Academy Award and BAFTA Award — said he’s not really in the business of offering unsolicited fatherly counsel.

“Now, as far as advice, I think she picks up it because I’m her dad,” he said. “She picks up advice hopefully by the way I behave in this business and navigate my way through. But I don’t ever say, ‘Now, young lady, here’s some advice I wanna give you.’ Kids don’t want to hear that.”

He concluded, “But thank you, she’s doing great and the show is fantastic.”

Dearden made her acting debut in 2010 alongside her dad on his hit show Breaking Bad. From there, she starred in several shorts as well as on the television series 101 Ways to Get Rejected and American Vandal. She also played Ophelia opposite Eliza Bennett’s Jules on the short-lived Sweet/Vicious. Her notable film credits include 2017’s Heartthrob and 2020’s The Last Champion.

With The Pitt, which launched in January on Max and has already been renewed for a second season, Dearden and fellow cast and crew have received both wide critical acclaim and praise from the medical community.

The ER-set series has already received the Breakthrough Drama Series at the Gotham TV Awards and is expected to be a major Emmys contender. The cast also includes Noah Wyle, Tracy Ifeachor, Patrick Ball, Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell and Shabana Azeez.
