Ja Morant Gets Grizzlies Update After Speculation Regarding Future originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
As the NBA offseason has begun for all but two franchises in the league, the Memphis Grizzlies will be preparing for the future while being led by a new coach.
After the March 28 firing of long-time Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins, Memphis granted assistant coach Tuomas Iisalo the top position for the rest of the 2024-25 season.
After the Grizzlies liked what they saw from him, Iisalo was hired as Memphis' head coach for the foreseeable future on May 2.
There has been speculation that after the Grizzlies moved on from their winningest coach in franchise history, Memphis could explore other options for their franchise star, Ja Morant.
These rumors have been shot down after recent reports.
"All indications are that the relationship between the Grizzlies and Morant remains strong," Grizzlies beat writer Damichael Cole said on Thursday. "Morant spoke highly of Iisalo before the hiring, and his stats improved when Iisalo took over in place of former Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins."
Ja Morant has been the face of the Grizzlies franchise since getting drafted by them No. 2 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft.
In the six seasons Morant has been in Memphis, he's won the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 2020, the NBA Most Improved Player in 2022, and has made two All-Star games in 2022 and 2023.
In the past two seasons, however, Morant's battled suspensions and injuries that has led to him playing in just 59 regular season games.
He also signed a five-year, $197 million extension with the Grizzlies in 2022 that will keep him tied to the franchise for another three seasons.
